Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics/Science Education

QUALIFICATIONS
An earned doctorate in Elementary, Middle School or Secondary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field is required. Three years of successful experience teaching mathematics or science in either Middle or Secondary grades is required. The department seeks applicants with a background in teacher education and expertise in one or more of the following: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education, curriculum and instruction, and teacher pedagogy. Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level is desired; as is experience in online or field-based teaching, and integration of technology. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Teach and supervise field-based and online mathematics and/or science undergraduate and graduate courses
• Implement a significant ongoing program of focused scholarly research and publication
• Provide service and leadership to national professional organizations, the university, college, and department
• Provide professional service to surrounding K-12 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) programs and community partners

SALARY & BEGINNING DATE
Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications. The position is a nine-month appointment. The anticipated date of appointment is August 20, 2011. The University offers an excellent benefits package, including healthcare and retirement. The state of TN currently has no state income tax and the Memphis area has a very reasonable cost of living.
